The year is 1982, and Johannesburg’s Western Coloured Township is in the grips of a severe housing shortage following a series of housing shortages dating back the 1950’s forced removals. It was in this time of need that the Western Residents Action Committee (WRAC) started a fight with the apartheid regime that would eventually see the township being completely rebuilt into what would become known as Westbury. This previously unrecorded history details how a small township made a big difference, in spite of police brutality and racial discrimination.
